I have a Silverplate tray (I think Holloware) which I know is from 1913. The company is W.D. Smith Silver Co. Inc. of Chicago, IL. The information I've found out so far about the company is below, but what I'd still like to know is: Is the company still in production, if not when did they stop production? Who was the President/ Owner? Did another Co. take over the company at some point in time and if so what was its name and when? Is this worth collecting? Were they a quality maker or not? Thank you for your time.

This is the info I know so far:

"Rudolph J. Bourgeois vice-president of the company registered the trade mark Patent No. 148714, Nov. 22, 1921 for the manufacture of silverware, particularly hollowware, flatware, jewelry,and precious metal ware. In applying for this patent registration it was stated that this patent had been used continuously since 1913. The company was incorporated under the laws of Delaware and located in Chicago. Listed KJI 1922 as silversmiths, period silverware, and KJI 1924 simply as manufactures of silverware. "

The aforementioned all according to the Encyclopedia of American Silver Manufacturers Fourth Edition, Rainwater.

3 SSS in diamonds marks indicate weather it is nickel silver or plated.

This mark is one I associate with the Rockford Silver Company of Rockford, Il. It shows up from time to time with Rockford marked items. Particularly in the Jewelers Crown Guild selling arrangement. There is very little known about Rockford aside from all the pieces we see. I seem to be the one most familiar with it.

Generally, these are high quality items from their time. They were sold through jewelry stores.
