I know that the forum is not for silverplate, but anyhow.

Fish spade anno 1900 - not good silver plate quality. Marks 2 towers and P in a circle. No makers mark, well quality taken into account I don't blame.

Pattern is typically danish.

The blade well it is not in shape as fish, so without the holes and the fish. I would say cake.

but the fish talked to me so I bought it at an internet auction. received it yesterday. The very naive fish but so identifiable.

When opening this - hawing a fish spade makes sense. I enjoy using mine. I am amused it is in silver dated 1799. When you have 2 fish spades. Well it can be justified - large table might require 2 fish fade and then you need 2 fish spades.

But 3 fish spades - it starts looking like a collection. 4 you lost your common sense. 5 uuuugh.

We move on to the next

this is not even plated silver. It is white metal don't know what metal. It is from Norway.
Nice fish

more to follow...

At first thank you for showing this one and I'm curious at the rest. Why is sivlerplate not interesting was my first thought? EPNS is showed so often at this forum. You have still four to go. It's also good when you use things which you have bought. Knowing this kind of fish grows around 1.25 mtr. you have enough fishservers to attack.
Ofcourse in combination with a good drink.
It is nice to see another one than only the few modern fishservers we have overhere.

I think the piece is very interesting - and even more so since it spoke to you! And, I'm glad you use them.

I may start collecting them as well, since growing up, it always seemed that a 'pie server' is what my mother was looking for. These will fit that use.

Thank you for sharing!

For contemporary commissioned fish slices see Seymours Rabinovitch's book Contemporary Silver.

One of our member smiths made this one:

Thanks for the comments.

I have a similar selection of cake spades.

No. 2 has no marks.
No. 3 is also without marks. But pattern is well known in Denmark. Quality of silverplating is excellent. No week places - or it has not been used much.

The fish is of an unknown race - wonder who gave inspiration?

Hallo hallo I count 7 fish in that one. I am on the look out for one of these.

No 4 contains a mark. M&TB for Madsen & T. Baagøes Elektroplet- og Nysølvvarefabrik established 1874. They made first class silver plate - plate to last.

Fantastic fish

And now we lack no 5

And that is the one I use. Made by Andreas Holm in Copenhagen in 1799.

He did his own engraving and here a break water fish. Karpe - commend to eat at that time not normal today.

And by no 5 I rest my case,

Regarding plated versus silver. It is two different things. Plated will never be siver but I buy ocationally when I find something nice. So let us take a story .... we shift to cream mug so I better open an new..

Silver plate is very welcome on this forum! I believe that some silver plated objects are much more artistic and high quality than some pure silver objects. It all depends on the maker.
