Hi Everyone I have found a dispensor of some type. On the cups and the dispensor are the words: R. Dutch Silver I can't find any other marks denoting whether this is silver or silver plate? Has anyone heard of this (company?) before? I put this one picture into the post because it shows what I am talking about. Thanks Everybody! Brenda

Rainwater & Redfield only give a reference to "Dutch Silver Novelties", a mark used by Johnson, Hayward & Piper Co. of NYC during 1905-1915 on plated items. In general, however, when you find a term like "Brazil Silver" or "Dutch Silver", you are probably dealing with a plated item. Firms used these "silver" terms to imply that their product was real silver and of high quality. The sole exception to that is "German Silver", which when marked that way usually means the same thing, but when spoken of that way can also mean sterling or a high silver standard of solid silver work made in Germany. ------------------ IP: Logged |
