[01-1316] I have received a small creamer that is engraved or stamped with "Silver on Copper" on the bottom. It has 4 very ornate feet that are darker than the body and are a dull finish. The handle is also ornate and resembles the feet. There is one area on the side where some of the copper color is showing through. It is approx. 2 1/2 inches tall, and has a 2 1/2 inch diameter. Does anyone know its approx. age? Thanks, IP: Logged |

Silver on copper seems to be a description that occurs no earlier than the 1920s - has anyone seen earlier examples? Are these words the only markings? Sometimes they accompany the symbols of companies such as Sheriden etc., but alone I suspect they might be from a relatively modern Asian or Indian manufacturer. And, I would suggest that any company which doesn't "sign" their work in some way is aiming towards the lower end of the market! Perhaps there are exceptions, so in this case a photps of the piece and its marks would be essential. IP: Logged |
