[01-1365] I received the silverware as a gift in 1972 and would like to add pieces. I would be ever so grateful for any help in identifying my silver pattern. On the back of my sterling silver is the marking International S.Co XII. It is a very simple pattern. I have been searching frantically throughout the Internet--and have had no luck. Any information would be gratefully appreciated.

Hello Pat, and welcome to the forums, Unfortunately, I can only give you bad news. First, the set is silverplate, not sterling. Sterling made by International Silver would be clearly marked STERLING. Your particular mark usually appears on heavy-duty silverplate, often made for commercial use. The XII designation refers to the thickness of the plating. Secondly, I have been unable to identify your pattern. Most International silverplate patterns are well documented, but I'm afraid I can't find yours in Tere Hagan's "Silverplated Flatware" book, the most widely available reference. It must have a name though; I will see if anyone I know can ID it. I am sorry to disappoint you, but I hope this information is of some use. Brent IP: Logged |

The mark you show is one that sometimes is associated with IS's commercial lines of silverplate. From the design my guess would be that this is a pattern made for restaurants, clubs and other public places. This would be instead of the patterns made for home use. These patterns are not well understood as there has been little research on them. None of which is very helpful, but is the best I can do. IP: Logged |

Brent and Dale are both correct. Your pattern is definitely silverplate and not a pattern sold for home use. The good news is that hotel/restaurant silver has become quite popular and wears well. Vi IP: Logged |
