[01-1462] Hi, I found this silver bowl at a garage sale. I believe I've identified this correctly as a piece designed by Fred Harvey for the Gorham Manufacturing Co. in 1910. But of course I am a little unsure - as the mark for 1910 appears to always be horizontal and the mark on this piece is vertical - maybe it doesn't matter? Also, I'm assuming that the E P in the mark on the bottom means that it is Electro Plated? However, I'm wondering if this piece might be silver thru-and-thru and not just silver plated. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Dan, and welcome to the forums. This is an example of hotel silverplate. It would have been used at one of Fred Harvey's hotels. He didn't actually design the bowl. The EP does indeed stand for Electro Plated. The number 09731 is Gorham's model number--a Gorham model number beginning in 0 also indicates silverplate.
