I hate the way newly-plated items look. The old finish looks like sterling silver with a few spots worn away, showing the base metal beneath. Is there any way to restore just the worn-away areas without making the piece look like it was newly plated? IP: Logged |

There are a few repair peaple who use a technique called sponging, the silver anode is wraped with a sponge ( which has been dipped in the platting solution) and when the sponge makes contact with the piece the circut is made and silver is deposited to the area touched. Or the whole piece could be plated as usual and antiqued by chemically oxidising and then polishing. Hope this helps. IP: Logged |
