Not able to show a pic unfortunately, as the item has been sold. I was asked recently to identify the maker of a mother of pearl handled fruit set of knives and forks in electroplate. Thinking of De Giovanni's book "Victorian Electroplaters..." and Mappin's "Dealer Guides: EPNS..." sitting home, I blithely said I thought I could do it. Not so! The set of knives was marked with three stars in a clover-leaf formation (EP to one side, NS to the other), and also three capital roman "B" letters in the same shape. It was a lovely clean handle design, with some decorative engraving to the blades. The forks unmarked, but all in the original timber box with brass cartouche let into the lid. Does this maker ring a bell with anyone? IP: Logged |

Not where I can check at the moment, but seem to recall Birmingham manufacturer Barker Bros. using a 3-stars-in-trefoil mark. ~Cheryl IP: Logged |

Hope there's no problem in linking to Pat's useful site on pewter and silverplate marks: quote:

Dragonflywink - many thanks for that, and for the link to Pat's most useful site. I shall pass the information on to the new and delighted owner of the fruit set. IP: Logged |
