[26-1601] It has been a long time since I posted on SMP/SSF, so am treating myself as a newbie for this posting. I am trying to identify silver that belonged to my grandmother and am having difficulty finding anything close to the pictured carving set. I cannot find any makers marks or other silver marks (knife blade marked stainless). I polished the pieces and though they are well used I couldn't see any kind of plate loss if they are plate.
Any ideas would be appreciated. If my post looks acceptable I hope to jump back into the General Forum. IP: Logged |

Hi Lisa, welcome back. The pattern appears to be silverplated Victory, 1927, by Rogers and Brothers. It can be a tricky one to identify as there is variation between pieces and productions runs. My understanding is that this pattern was available for a very long period of time, probably into the 50's. It appears to have been used as a promotional pattern, given for coupons etc. Carving sets like this were offered long after the place pieces were unavailable. That and salad servers were gift items for a long time. IP: Logged |

Dale, thanks for the info. Most of my reference material is for sterling. The Turner book does have some plate, but not the newer patterns. From what I remember of my grandmother, it doesn't surprise me that she had something that you got for coupons or promotional giveaways. Though there was a few pieces of Shiebler/Polhemus Diamond in the mix of her silver. IP: Logged |
