Old Sheffield plate is copper with a layer of silver. The silver layer is so that you can engrave - and still not see that it is plated. So its possible but also I ask the question whats the purpose of this. Front
Back
Someone has made a beautiful engraving on both sides of the plate. I can see on side - but then back is hidden. Why has this master made this. We will never know, but some reasons might be:
2. To show what the OSP plate could do, a test piece. 3. A test before the engraver was permitted to engrave a specific piece. Somebody had the idea that it was solid silver - he tested.
And made this wound - that will never be healed.
The original - oooo he was skilled. All made by a steady hand. IP: Logged |
