I recently acquired a small footed jug in silverplate in an Aesthetic or Japonisme style. The silverplate body of the jug is hammered and the decorative elements on the jug are finished in gold and look like they have been applied to the jug surface though I am not sure about that. The decorative elements include bamboo, a fan, a snail, a flying fish and a mon with an interior scene of a boat on the water. The whole stands on 4 animal feet. The jug was made by the Hartford Silver Plate Company circa 1880. Does anyone else have examples of silverplate enhanced with other metals? I would love to see them. I came across a Gorham silverplate elephant centerpiece from a dealer in the South that has applied copper embellishments around its base. I also know that there are Meriden examples of silverplate and other metals or at least just gold. I look forward to hearing from everyone.
