[26-1484] At first I want to ask if this object is silverplated and is it possible that a member can tell about:
-In which period? -Where it's used for? This pattern is 4.3 inch wide at the bottom, about 7.5 inches wide at the top, and about 3.2 inches high. Two handles are missing but I couldn't pass this object in the shop. I found the shape nice and after cleaning it the silverplate is in rather good condition. The material is thin a totally this object weight 200 grams. In the bottom is the letter V and number 3653? engraved. Perhaps(I learned from another topic question) that the letter V can mean that the object has been imported to Holland? If I see five lily's made in ring of the top. Perhaps this object is produced in France? I hope I've explained it well and I look forward to get any reaction about this object. One photo's will be included.

Second information of this object is that the lily's ornaments are soldered at the upper side ring. And a part of the bottom (lowest ring) is also soldered at the part of the basin/bowl. I think some photo's gives a better explanation.

Certainly could be wrong, but my first thought from how it looks and the fact that it's so thin is that it's not plated but solid silver. The engraved letter-number is sometimes called a scratch-code, and usually is some kind of inventory control system, either in a shop or sometimes even a household. Look around the rim and footring for a mark, but sometimes pieces are just not marked and you have to have them tested to be sure.... IP: Logged |

FWG, Thank you for your quick answer, now I'm curious of course, tomorrow I will let check it out by the local jewelery shop. It was totally dirt, when I bought it today. The handles are broken and I thought perhaps they stamped the marks in one of them. But like you wrote, I have checked the rim at the bottom and it's hard to see or find a mark. I am also curious what they used this model/pattern for? In which country it is made and in which period? Is this also made by machinery for shaping the pattern? The backside is grooved. I hope I get an answer about these questions, if I know something more about it I will write it down at this topic. Greetings, IP: Logged |
