These are an interesting pair of silver plated goblets by Rogers, Smith and Co. They were located in Hartford, Connecticut from 1857 until 1861. Only one of the goblets is marked. While the goblets look alike they are a different height and weight. One is about a ¼” taller, but weighs only 146 grams while the shorter one weighs 170 grams. The engraving on both appears the same and I wonder would this engraving been done my hand or by some mechanized method. The engraving really does look like that used on Coin goblets. Both are engraved “From Mother” without the name of the recipient. I suspect that because of the different size they were made in different production runs. In any event they really do look good and have aged with a nice patina. IP: Logged |
