[26-2115] Hello all. I'm a homemaker in WV. I recently inherited some knick-knack from my great grandmother's estate. I'm not looking for a valuation (I'm never going to sell these for sentimental reasons) so much as information about them, as I suspect that they were taken in on trade for some work that my great great grandfather did (barter was big back then in my area, and his field of expertise was in high demand). First off, all three pieces are silverplate. The first piece has a stamp on the bottom of it that says ROMAN SILVERSMITHS EPC -- but I can't find ANY information on the Roman silversmithing company online Can anyone give me any information with regards to this piece? Here's a couple of pictures:

Hi there, bulletsnbait! I wish I could help you identify your pieces, but I can't. All I can do is say welcome! Great job answering the intro questions and posting photos. I hope someone else will be able to help you out. Best, IP: Logged |

Thanks Polly. I tell ya, it's been quite the conundrum. I'm afraid to post pictures of the other two pieces, as I can't find -any- indentifying marks on them AT ALL! IP: Logged |

Department stores were just about everywhere by the 1950s. The company was just a wholesale manufacturer, not retail. IP: Logged |

Ah. Anywhere I can read more about the company and the pieces it offered? IP: Logged |

b-'n-b, post pictures anyway. Who knows? Maybe someone will have something interesting to say even without a mark. IP: Logged |

Good point, Polly. I'll take pictures of the other two pieces when I get home tonight and bring them tomorrow to share. --Elizabeth IP: Logged |

EPC should stand for electro plated copper, but then again plated wares often had were given somewhat confusing markings to help with the marketing. Is it really heavy like copper would be, or lighter weight like a nickel-zinc alloy might be? Are there any spots where it is heavily worn or deeply scratched where you can see what the primary metal is underneath the thin silver electroplating? Very heavy, Kimo, and there's some copper showing through in some spots. It was... well loved, shall we say? IP: Logged |
