I found this several weeks ago and I'm curious about a couple of things. Firstly, the area around the pattern seems like a different type of metal. When tapped it has more of a 'thud' to it than a 'ting' when the rest of the item is tapped. Also I'm curious about the makers mark. I know by the mark that this was made between 1900-1919 but I'm wondering if the 1914 is the pattern number? Also, what is the significance of the BC 6?

Capot1948 it is so difficult to guess from an image but a thought about the sound... the chased/struck design might be let in (meaning a different metal soldered in a hole) and then chased. That’s not high on my guess list. Maybe the chased part has been anealed and not the surrounding area. Again not really that possible... look in side and see if there are any color differences. Maybe the chasing itself changed the sound? Nice pot, sorry I’m no help with the markings. IP: Logged |

This is the inside of the coffee pot on either side.

Great shots! That seems to show no evidence of different metals. Really just not sure what could be the cause of a sound change? IP: Logged |

The only thing I can think of is the metal is somewhat thicker in that area. IP: Logged |

Could be but its hard for me to reconcile a change in gauge with the way these are made... [This message has been edited by agleopar (edited 03-13-2019).] IP: Logged |

Let me see if I can test it with something other than a fingernail. IP: Logged |
