Hello all members. I am new to your forum and am looking forward to learning lots of new info about silver. I inherited a ton of it from my family and cannot ID some of it, so I am sure you all will be super to help me in my quest. The set listed below is gold-washed sterling or plate. I cannot tell since there are no marks. Let me start with my major conundrum.
It was nice to "meet" you all and I hope to hear from you soon. Thanks, IP: Logged |

Hello netsy, And welcome to the forum. If there are really no marks, what you have is probably not solid silver under the gilding. IP: Logged |

Well better late than never for a partial answer to this 2007 post. This flatware is 19th C French and might be part of a dessert service. There is a 2-piece ice cream service, a cream serving spoon, a stewed fruit serving spoon, and 2 forks. There are indeed marks on the silver, but they are too small to see clearly in the photos. I don’t know whether this person still visits the Forums, but if they could post a close-up photo of the marks I might be able to identify the maker. The maker’s mark in the lozenge-shaped reserve seen on the heel of the blade of the ice cream slice would appear to indicate 950 standard silver rather than silverplate, but a better photo is necessary to confirm.
