When you will see the photo's of this object I hope you recognize this one.

I bought it in a second hand store, cleaned it took it to the local jewelry shop.

There opinion is that this one is silvered.

Inside the cover is only (hardly to see) the letter S, I hope the photo is clear enough and it is difficult to get it sharper.

I think it's not old and perhaps a copy of a earlier pattern what they used again?

What I should want to know are some questions about this one.

If somebody recognize this one can you tell me what the name is of this object/pattern?
And if it's possible where is it used for or can you use it for?

I've looked at internet but couldn't find the same pattern, also in my only book about silver.(In that book are standing only silver objects from museum or antique shops).

The knob is about the same way they made them on larger dishes or bowls (I hope I explain it well?).

The object weight about 530 grams.
The bowl is 5 inch wide, bottom/feet is 3.5 inch wide and it is about 4.5 inch high.

I hope someone will react at this one, thanks for reading the topic and I send two photo's from this one.

Greetings Silverhunter.

This is not a Norwegian silver object I suppose?

Thank you for your reaction Jersey, It's difficult to make a clear photo from the mark (letter?). (about 3mm). Perhaps I just found another mark? is looks like's a crescent (of the moon). I think about also 2 or 3 mm.

These two marks (I hope they are?) standing inside the cover, I will send this mark(s) right away. I hope this will help?

The letter S is black signed. At a silver plated little plate also standing a kind of black signed marks. I don't know anything about this technique about how they placing these marks on silver. They are only good to see with lenses and good light.

So I'm interested in a lot of things.

I would expect that this is a sugar bowl and would have been part of a larger set that would have included a little jug of a similar size to be used for milk and that would be called a creamer, and also the set would have included a coffee pot, a tea pot, a tray, and perhaps some other pieces depending on how complete the manufacturer made the set. It could be part of a set that was sold to private individuals or perhaps part of a set that was sold to restaurants or hotels.

I can not clearly see the mark but I would agree that this is most likely silver plated and not silver. The style is a simple and classical style that could have been made in almost any country in the 20th century or maybe in the second half of the 19th century, but my guess is that it is 20th century.

Thank you Kimo.

I think also this one is not old, but I found the shape nice. I think also, it isn't silver.

Does the black letter S means silverplated?. Kimo, can you tell me how they placed this black letter S upon the material? Do they use a special technique for it?

And is this only used by silver plated objects? I mean letters or figures?

Thanks for explaining everything.

Greetings,
silverhunter

I can not see the marking clearly so I can only make a guess. One possibility is that is is not actually a marking and is instead a transfer of ink from something like a piece of newspaper or other paper in which it might have been wrapped at some time.

A second possibility is that it could be a marking printed onto the metal, using ink or some kind of paint. Silver plated objects often have a coating of varnish or shelac or some kind of clear material that is sprayed on to keep the metal shiney. Such a marking could be applied before the object is sprayed with this protective coating so that it will not wear off until the protective coating wears off. This is only a guess.

Good guess, I go for your second opinion, because I see sometimes more ink marks? at silverplated objects. I saw the film Analyze This and I hear De Niro saying: your good, yes your so good etc. I liked the movie but also appreciate your information. So thanks again!

I'm in a hurry to send a new topic before Friday starts in Holland, about less than one hour.

Greetings,
silverhunter.

Perhaps it's like the second movie and somebody will analyze that!
