To see only the marks it is very difficult at this side to find out. Can you tell me which country these one is made? Ehen the figure 13 explains the lot, I suppose the object was made around 1880. I follow the topic to learn from your silver quest. Groeten Silverhunter. IP: Logged |

Here is some more information. Last week my computer crashed so I have to restore all information I had. The figure 13 is a figure that stands for the silver percentage of 812/1000. I don't know exactly the whole range of the Lot indication but
The letter N stands for the city of Nuremberg (Nurnberg) and the letter X can be the date letter? I hope somebody can provide more detail on this to you. From 1760 Nurnberg used the letter N so it's only a matter for get more information. But please send a photo of the total subject it will give also a indication of the period it is made. The ornaments looks old and perhaps it is early 19th or 18th century who knows? IP: Logged |

Suomoo, The shape of the letter "N" for Nurmburg changed over time. According to the boo by Tardy (which is by no means the final authority), yours looks closest to the one for the late 18th century. I suspect what looks like an "x" may be a maker's mark not a date letter. It would be helpful if you could post an enlarged picture of the marks and rotate it 90 degrees right so we are looking at them as they were meant to be read. A picture of the salts would also help in identifying them. Besides, every one enjoys seeing the item. Blackstone seems the member most likely to give you a more definitive answer, so I hope he will reply to your post. Good luck. Tom IP: Logged |

I, too, would like to see a photo of the salts. The marks look to be Hanau pseudomarks. The N" does not look like Nuremburg to me, and that distinctive "13" (with the lower half of the "3" dropping down and curving up to almost touch the "1") is found frequently with Hanau false marks. IP: Logged |

Also from the pics I'm wondering if that is an X or a pair of crossed hammers. IP: Logged |
