Hi,

I have a ring.

On one side of the inner band it says SILVER..on the other side of the silver band it says SSRR.

I have tried to find out who the maker was and the age of the ring... but have had no success.

I have recently started to collect lots of pieces of silver (just pieces that catch my eye) its a minefield of marks and makers!

Thanks all.

Hello to you,

Welcome to the forum can you send us please a photo of the ring and of the marks. I don't know much about jewelry but there are members with (of course) better knowledge about all that silver.

Can you also tell us what kind of silver you collect, only Scottish or also other pieces from over the border. Do you also visit for instance car boots or auctions please tell us more.

Greetings Silverhunter.

Without seeing the ring, it is really impossible for us to tell you much about it. Can you post a photograph? I don't know the maker SSRR, although in my experience, jewelry marked with the word "SILVER" is frequently Japanese, English, or Australian.

Thanks a lot Scott Martin, I call it a short version of personal welcome to hopefully a new member.

The yellow box tells a lot, but it is no guarantee that for instance photo's can be send successfully the first time, like I also had to learn to send them, so I hope it will work!

This starting was better than mine.

Hi all

Thank you for the welcome and replies...

I have been collecting silver mainly rings for a short time only. I do not go for anything in particular...only the items that catch my eye.

I have three daughters and felt this was a nice way to leave them something.

I prefer silver with a bit of age as I feel it then has some history (silly I know) I have tried to take a good picture of the marks on the ring and can't. I may have to borrow a better camera. I don't go to boot sales but will buy from charity venues and I have bought from auction sites. I will try and get a good picture and add it.

Thanks again.

while waiting for photos, any chance that SSRR might be S925 or 925S? When worn or weakly struck those can often start to look like letters, but either would be a sterling mark.

Adding to Paul's list, a SILVER mark on jewelry is also common from China, New Zealand, and sometimes Southeast Asia. From non-English-speaking places it's usually found on pieces made for the international and/or tourist trade.

Hi again.

No it is definitely S S R R
like that in capitals with a space in between. The cut of the silver looks almost handmade (I think).

I have one of the first(old) digital camera's, I use for making silver marks photo's a lens for instance from a old projector. Hold it on the body from the camera and it has also good results.

I've tried the SSRR combination could it be Scottish Silver . . (it's a try).

Or it are the initials of the silversmith but I haven't information about that. (sorry)

My little collection has some silver but not from Scotland (until now) so I'm interested from now on, what is produced over there.

If we're guessing, I'd go for southeast asian - Indonesia, maybe.
