I did read the yellow box, and upon further study, I still I have no idea what exactly how I've offended you. If your complaint could be a bit less general, I believe I can comply. +++ SEARCH: done to little illumination, but I did give up in less than an hour. PHOTO: Listed (see Guidelines) as optional, and I didn't feel a photo of the two letters RS, for example, would be clearer than stating "the two letters RS". I may be wrong. WHY: As stated, without damaging them, I wish to separate them into one of two categories (Plate or Solid), . GUIDELINES: Read.

This site is a little different than some others you may have encountered. People here share their extensive knowledge, but don't do so for people's commercial/financial benefit, which is why we ask for information about you and why you are asking about a specific item. Generally, it is helpful to provide photographs; you are more likely to get responses particularly when it comes to Contintental pieces. That having been said, I can help with your last piece, which was made by International Silver and is silver plated; if sterling, it would be marked as such. IP: Logged |

Tells something more about yourself and your interest in silver. Are you a new collector? "I have a small bunch of spoons..." "... that I need to find out about." Photos are always helpful. Seeing the design, pattern, the shape of the cartouch around the marks, the style/typeface the marks, etc. May be very revealing IP: Logged |

DOC: Thanks for your reply. I have a small amount of Int'l Silver flatware, not counting Wm. Rogers, and other variants marketed by them, but have never seen any solid IS examples, only read of them.
In the late 1980's I started a bullion dealership as an experiment at the request of my then boss. When I closed it down a few years later, I was left with a few score lbs of silver in my safety deposit box. (I have found that giving a pound or two of silver is considered a unique wedding gift.) Recently I have started to acquire & repair a small amount of various types of flatware & holloware, mostly plated, mostly from local charity /thrift shops. The spoons I first mentioned were purchased at the same places, usually in batches. I wish to separate plate from 800, 925, or other flatware as I believe I can eventually use the solid silver in electroplating repair experiments. Some of it is quite damaged. IP: Logged |

Thanks for the input. "Recently I have started to acquire & repair a small amount of various types of flatware & holloware, mostly plated,.. Interesting. We have several Silversmiths on the forums. I expect they will be a good source for input about the repairs. "...electroplating repair experiments" I also expect most of us have never actually attempted to do any electroplating ourselves. I am sure we would like see your electroplating set up and to hear about your experimental journey. What I am about to say may not be economical because of the of the cost to do it... I believe you could capture the silver from the silverplate by reverse plating. I suspect some other members will know. Photos of the spoons, marks and of your plating setup would be great to see.
