I recently acquired this nice early ladle. Its 7 in. long and 1 3/4 in. at the bowl. It has a conjoined H B mark. There are no other marks. It has nice bright cut engraving at the top of the handle and the bottom of the bowl. The bowl also has a nice border and a pour lip. It may also have traces of a gold wash. I am wondering if anyone knows the mark, approx. age and if in fact it is American. Any information would be appreciated. IP: Logged |

The style of this ladle is too late (late 18th - early 19th Century) for Henricus Boelen, who died in 1755. The decoration on the back of the bowl is typically European. Conjoined initials are common on European silver marks. Perhaps one of our international correspondents recognizes the maker or sponsor mark. The lack of any assay or town marks likely would indicate a "provincial" origin, which might make it difficult to locate. IP: Logged |
