I have exhausted my sources of information and would like to know if anyone has information on G.A. Mudge and co. This is the only mark on a very nice crumber that I have. It does have a inscription on the handle " Silver Wedding " 1863. Thank you for any information. IP: Logged |

Thank you wev and bascall. I can't believe I missed this in the genaealogy website. I guess I was fixated on him being a retailer the way his mark looked. I apologize for such an easy miss. Roger IP: Logged |

He seems to be listed as a jeweler, not a silversmith. Am I mistaken? That would make him a retailer, though I would imagine he did things like the engraving on this. IP: Logged |

George A Mudge is listed as a salesman, jeweler and silverware dealer in Boston Directories. I take him as a retail jeweler myself, so his company was probably the retailer of this piece and not the maker or manufacturer. IP: Logged |

Yes Kimo, that's where he is listed. Well I've learned more than I expected. I tend to move a little too fast through things at times. Need to be a little more careful with my searches. So his mark is probably that of a retailer, as a jeweler, and it makes sense that they would have engraved the piece with the Silver Anniversary and date at the shop. Again, that was an easy one I shouldn't have missed, but thanks for your patience and help. IP: Logged |
