This is not directly related to silver, but more of a genealogy request. My great great great-grandfather was Andrew B Kitchen, of Bailey and Kitchen. I am trying to find his wife's name or any other family members. (His son Charles Boyd Kitchen was my great great grandfather, but I have no other names IP: Logged |

Judging by your question, I can't really tell if you've read the introduction for new members or not. However, it is obvious that the information you seek is entirely innocent. The criteria for this site includes a desire to share knowledge about silver and related subjects and that does often include genealogy. Please, if you haven't gone through the new members guidelines do, and welcome to the forums. In answer to your question, I believe her name was Maria M Woodward. Here's a google book link that I think you'll find very interesting: Look on page 322 or search the name Kitchen when the link opens. IP: Logged |

An enigmatic character. Drawing on the papers of his widow's appeal to a judgment involving the Kitchen estate and the Orphan Court, her given name was Maria and she later married a Mr. Woodward. Kitchen's children are given as William Francis, Emma Matilda, Charles Henry, and Ella, all minors at the time of his death on 15 May 1850. It appears from the wording of his will and the court proceedings that they were the offspring of a previous marriage. Also mentioned is Kitchen's aunt, Sarah Boyd, who was to receive an annuity from the estate. The case can be found on Google Books [This message has been edited by wev (edited 06-14-2011).] IP: Logged |

Thanks so much! I do appreciate this helpful information. I have tried to find info by Google and Ancestry.com and never came across this. I realize this is not the purpose of this forum but I am grateful for your help! My grandfather's name was Andrew Boyd so I can see the name carrying through, I am eager to check these resources. Andrew B Kitchen's son William F is listed as a jeweler in the 1860 census and the next son Charles is listed in the same household as a jeweler's apprentice. I believe your great great great-grandmother's middle name was Matilda. She is listed with just the first name Matilda in the 1850 and 1860 census's. IP: Logged |

This may not be new information, but I've learned that both Andrew B Kitchen and Mary Matilda Kitchen are buried in the Laurel Hill Cemetery 3822 Ridge Ave, Philadelphia (215) 228-8200. An online search for the cemetery will bring up information about genealogical research there. It would be nice to think that a simple request for a maiden name would not too costly especially with no guarantee that they'll have the name. Their genealogical research can apparently be fairly broad. Their burial location was found in this great old book(Smith's illustrated guide to and through Laurel Hill cemetery Smith's illustrated guide to and through Laurel Hill cemetery PDF here) which is here: IP: Logged |

Again, thanks so much for this information! Wish we had done this years ago when my grandparents were still living, they knew so much. They actually had 1 or 2 small pieces of Kitchen silver for a time, but with too many helping hands during family moves they were lost or sold. I did find out fairly recently that my great-grandmother (Andrew B Kitchen's great-grandaughter) is also buried in this cemetary. I will definitely take a closer look and check out their research option. Thank you! IP: Logged |
