![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I have a small spoon, silver/silver plated, 15,5 cm's long, but I can't seem to figure out what the marks on the back of the spoon's handle say. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Most silver plate markings are not well studied, mostly because there are litterally countless different ones due to there being no control over most of them in most countries. Often makers would try to make up markings that look a little bit like hallmarks to get people to buy their wares. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thank you for the replies. I have another question though! Is there anyway to tell the spoon's age from the marks on the back? What time or century it is from, etc. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The definitive answer is "maybe". But it has to be taken in conjunction with considering the material, style, proportions, and manufacturing method. For the bulk of ordinary spoons, what you see is what you get. But particularly once we look at precious metals, the situation can be far more complicated. And then there are the base metals spoons imitating precious metal wares. So stick with "maybe" for now. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Some markings on silver or gold include date codes, but many do not. For base metal objects, including most silver plated base metal objects the markings typically do not help much. IP: Logged |
