Can anybody help me identify this object please. It's use has had a number of people baffled, even a jeweler with 60 years experience in dealer with silverware! I have attached three photos. The top of the object unscrews to reveal a perforated top for shaking out its contents, and the base unscrews for filling the object. The Tiffany & Co Numbers are 7428M and 6548. Thanks IP: Logged |

Hi Neil. Welcome to the forum. Could you please take a peak at the guidlines in the yellow box near the top of this page and add a bit more information to your post? By the way, your photos are well done which is a great start! I cannot say that someone will recognize this object, but once you finish your self introduction I am sure the nice people on this forum will be happy to give you their thoughts. Also, by the relative size of the markings am I correct in thinking this is a rather small object? Regards, [This message has been edited by Kimo (edited 01-20-2012).] IP: Logged |

Hi, I apologise for my lack of introduction, I am based in the UK and this piece has been in the family for sometime. Although we have connections with the Jewellery trade nobody has any idea about what this could be. They have dismissed all the usual possibilities of salt or pepper or spice shaker. The item is 100mm high by 42mm in diameter at the base. It is a very elegantly designed piece so it's something that I intend to keep. Thanks for the compliment on the photos Kimo, it's one of my hobbies. I used a lightbox, a canon G10 and photoshop to achieve a clear image at close up. Neil

When searching for ” Glove Powder Box” or ”Glove Powder Bottle” most of the items found on the internet using search engines are not correct. What you have here is a ” Glove Powder Box” or ”Glove Powder Bottle”. Used for putting a small splash of talcum powder into the fingers of a glove. IP: Logged |

Hi Scott, That's great, thank you for clearing that up, it certainly makes sense now. Neil IP: Logged |

Must be quite small - otherwise a dead-ringer for an Islamic rose water sprinkler (screw-off wand and all), especially those I've seen from Morocco. ~Cheryl IP: Logged |
