dragonflywink has posted photos and articles about etched spoon bowls in the General Silver Forum about Etching Souvenir Spoons bowls... right now I can't post to that forum so here's my answer (perhaps Scott can add the link?) The photo of Joilet Penitentiary isn't that unusual. I've seen both etched and bas-relief bowls for several penitentiaries as well as mental hospitals, sanatoriums, at least one foundling hospital, orphanages and several public hangings.., The Joilet spoon pictured was done using a transfer and extremely fine etching can be done in this way! I have spoons which could have been done by amatures - or simply non-artistic jewelers... If anyone is interested I can post photos... Kat IP: Logged |
