I have a mystery... I have no idea what in the world this is! It's 4" long, marked G. Seifert (Gustavus Seifert, Quebec, Canada circa 1850 - 1909) and sterling. The flat area shows a die-stamped scene that's fairly common in the bowls of Quebec souvenir spoons. But I have no idea what this could have been used for! It's clearly constructed in 3 pieces. The oval handle, the blade and a decorative piece laid over the join of the blade and the flat area with a band that wraps around to reinforce the join... Any ideas?????
Hummm... just picked whatever it is up and realized that both the long edge and the curved edge are relatively sharp... As to why I have it... I have a friend who lives in the UK and collects Canadian souvenir spoons, there are a number of sellers on eBay who don't want to bother to sell to the UK so I buy spoons for him until I have a dozen or so and then forward them to him... this is one of his spoons!
