I recently purchased a chased tea set circa 1840. It is unsigned except for a 6 digit number along with the number 08 on the bottom of each piece. The set is exquisite and appears to be coin silver except for the handle which shows a tiny chip. The set has heavy influence of R.W. Wilson of Philadelphia. Does anyone know if Wilson or any other silversmith used both coin silver along with silver plating in the silver parts of their wares?
