I met a guy at the flea market last weekend. His hobby is to buy cheap or damaged silverplated items and remove the silver by a process involving baking soda and the application of electric current from a battery charger. He recovers the silver and says that he usually gets a nice two-toned copper and pewter plate or mug or whatever from the process. Presumably he sells those too. We were discussing a large damaged tray that he said was copper with pewter handles. I suppose that the copper was worth more than the silver remaining on that tray. Anyway, the question I wanted to ask is if anyone knows what sort of procedure this guy was describing for removal of silver from scrap plates etc. Is there a description of it somewhere? This sounds like you are interested in the business of scraping. You should research this elsewhere. I am closing this thread IP: Logged |
