I would like to ask members if you have seen enamel like that decorating these demitasse spoons made by Peer Smed, dating to 1929-1943, in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. These beautifully imitate cabochons of veined stone. I wonder if this was a popular trend. If you have seen similar decoration by Smed or other silversmiths of the period and know how this effect was accomplished, please share info on this topic. I also find it interesting to see this accent of color and wonder if these were a special commission. These are the only examples of enameled silver I've seen so far by Smed. But I'm curious to know if there is more in this vein. IP: Logged |

We've seen these before, and don't think they're special orders. Here's one: It's small -- 4-1/8" L. And sort of unusual for Smed. But we've never seen a Smed piece we didn't like. IP: Logged |
