I have some pieces (coffee service) that are marked "Sterling Silver 950" and have a small diamond below with the letters "E.P" (no period after the "P") in it. I've not seen a 950 AND an EP (doesn't this mean electroplate?). So does anyone know what this is? I also have a bunch of pieces that have absolutely no markings...Since many may have been acquired overseas in the 40's-50's is it possible that any are sterling or silver plate? IP: Logged |

Hi and welcome. I am sure we can provide some helpful information, but first could we ask you to please read the big yellow box above that is titled "Please Read Before You Post" and provide the requested information? Please introduce yourself with a short summary of your interest in silver and the reason you are asking your question. Are you a collector and these objects are part of your collection or are you doing research to sell these things, or are you an author doing research to write a book, etc.? Then, continuing to read further in the yellow box above there are instructions for how to post photos in your posting Well lit, sharply focused photos of the overall object along with closeups of the markings are a must. Thanks, IP: Logged |

I'm cleaning up a family estate and trying to figure out what we have. Dad was a 35-year Navy jet pilot who fought in Korea and Viet Nam while Mom was a career ICU nurse. Dad frequently brought stuff back from overseas (including, at one point, a sailboat built in Japan!). So their items are generally from the 40's-50's. But some of Gramma's things date back to the late 1800's/early 1900's. I was able to get a decent picture of the sugar bowl (there are also two coffee urns and a creamer in this set) but I can't seem to get a good shot of the markings - partly because it's evening and cloudy and my macro lens is not working properly. I've read and re-read the posting photos instructions multiple times, downloaded a trial of one of the ISP hosting links you recommended and don't know what to do with Picture Trail (other link you recommended) either. Never thought of myself as technologically challenged before, but this one has me stumped. I have no idea how to get the photo posted....Sorry! IP: Logged |

Have you found the link in the yellow box that gives you the location of the SSF "in house" photo hosting website? Here is a link. You should try to upload a test photo here and then click on your photo to maximize it and then near the bottom of the page where you photo comes up you will see a line that starts with the title "BBCode (normal):" Copy the url that follows that title, click through the warning about using SSF images and paste that url into your posting. Once you have added one photo in this way you should be good to go. http://www.smpub.com/ubb/ssfgallery/index.php [This message has been edited by Kimo (edited 01-26-2015).] IP: Logged |
