We have many thousands of registered users, however most never post. (also see: Members who haven't posted and Members who haven't posted -#2) When registering they are given the following choice:
Most opt to receive mail from the SSF. We have never done any regular mailings, much less a newsletter. A mailing or a newsletter could take many different forms .... from very simple to extensive. I am unable to take on more forum work but perhaps some of you would do/assist a regular mailing or a newsletter....???? I think the simplest thing would be an occasional mailing pointing out some of the most interesting prior posts as well as some potentially interesting but UN-replied to posts that deserve another look. Any volunteers????????? IP: Logged |

Awww geez, now I feel bad! Would volunteer, but my time isn't really my own anymore - lucky if I get the chance to even check in here on any kind of regular basis... ~Cheryl IP: Logged |

I understand. Thanks for letting me know. I truly appreciate you saying something. Its good to know one of the SSF core members considered the request. We don't spy on our thousands of daily visitors so I never know if its lurkers or registered users who are looking at my posts. Thanks again for the acknowledgement. IP: Logged |

Just a note to acknowledge your concern. I signed up on this website several years ago to ask a question for genealogy reasons. I was looking for information on my 4th great grandfather Andrew Kitchen of Bailey and Kitchen Silver (Philadelphia). I am grateful for the gracious of a person who answered and gave me helpful information. I would love to be involved in knowing and dealing more with the history of silver but really time hasn't allowed. So I don't know exactly what a "lurker" is, but I admit that I would not be considered an active member. Blessings! IP: Logged |

In Internet culture, a lurker is typically a member of an online community or Personal learning network who observes, but does not actively participate. The exact definition depends on context. Lurkers make up a large proportion of all users in online communities. IP: Logged |
