Fernand Haville or Hauville is listed as a manufacturer's agent in 1912 (London) but later was producing spoons that exactly replicate of those made by the Sandheim family (especially those of Amy Sandheim) during the 1940s and 1950s.

So, who was this Fernand Haviile (or Hauville)? Apart from a brief mention in Culme's directory, there is nothing else.

Did he take over the Sandheim business after her death in 1958 and keep it going until the 1980s when it closed?

Any further information about him would be most appreciated.

I suspect that Fernand Hauville may not be the FH whose name is often attributed to later items. If you look at the illustration of Hauville's mark in Culme you will note that it is F.H. in a punch with indents at the bottom two corners. The later mark is F.H in a punch with indents in all four corners. I note that Hauville does not appear in any telephone directories after 1912.

Of course this can easily be cleared up by the London Assay Office if you have an example of the mark which you can send them.

Many thanks Phil-O. I have already tried Culme's directory and asked David B at the Goldsmiths Hall. Not much information alas and not any connection with Sandheim. I am on a remote machine this week so cannot download a pic of the mark found on these Sandheim spoons.
However the mark is a rectangle with canted corners and the letters F.H

I have seen Amy Sandheim's mark with assay dates between 1924 and 1939 and the mysterious FH mark with dates from 1926 to 1944 and your spoons extend this to the 1950s.

Amy Sandheim was 82 when she died in 1958 so I assume she had retired some years earlier, but the London Gazette shows that her company, Amy Sandheim Ltd, was not wound up until 1960. It may be that FH ran the company after Amy's retirement, but the overlap in dates between the two sponsors' marks makes me wonder.

FH mark has now been identified as that for Frances Harling who was Amy Sandheim's younger sister
