My mother gave me this SP serving spoon many years ago when she moved to assisted living and she could not remember where she got it and it has no markings, so I know nothing. She had Gorham Chantilly, so this was an oddball in the silver chest. I do remember it all my life and it was the spoon traditionally used to serve the mashed potatoes- the "tater spoon".

It's about 9 5/8" long & the bowl is gold washed. My parents got married in 1953, so it could date to then if it was a wedding gift. I would appreciate any info anyone might have as to where it came from. We do have a tradition in my family of passing on special older used pieces of "family silver" when someone gets married, so it could be one of those, but Mom does not remember anymore.

Any info would be much appreciated as I love this spoon and always stick it in the mashed potatoes too.

What a pretty spoon! Are you sure it's silver-plate rather than coin silver?

If I had to guess, I would guess it's from the mid-19th century.

Yes, I am sure it is SP. There is a place on the outside edge where you can see the plate was rubbed off to reveal a silver color base metal, so it is not copper or brass. I do agree it looks like coin silver tho.
