Hello everybody! I have this repousse silver musical box for such a long time and I have never knew who actually made it. It is decorated with phoenix birds and floral motifs. The mark looks like a flame with 850 inside and some letters that I can't read. I am posting pictures of the box and the marking. It has standard musical mechanism marked " Lador, Switzerland". Few years back I came across another very similar in style but smaller box which also had a very similar marking in shape of a leaf( see last picture!) The dealer wasn't sure but believed that it was an Asian box. All opinions are welcome! Thanks in advance! IP: Logged |

I can only add a couple of thoughts. First, the numbers 850 and 800 on the two examples refer to the silver content (85 percent and 80 percent respectively). Both are less than the sterling standard which would be 925. Second, Lador was a maker of music boxes for a long time before they (along with many other music box companies) were bought out by Reuge which is still going today. I do not know what year Reuge absorbed Lador. Small music box movements, including Lador, were sold in large quantities to different companies around the world who put them in various kinds of boxes to make music boxes. Finally, this is just a rough guess but the letters on the markings on these two boxes remind me more of Eastern European or maybe Soviet rather than Asian, but that is just a guess. IP: Logged |

It's Yogya silver, from Yogyakarta, Indonesia, dating after 1930 - the first is from Tom/Tom's Silver, believe 'KM' remains unattributed... ~Cheryl [This message has been edited by dragonflywink (edited 06-24-2016).] IP: Logged |

Bingo! That's what it is - already googled it and there are plenty of similar examples online! I am surprised they are so similar in style and techniques used - Nice and complex work I am impressed...Once you see it you will never forget it... so typical! Thanks so much for the tip Cheryl! Kimo, years ago my guess would also be it is Soviet etc because the motifs are very similar to the Russian folk art. Thanks for your time and effort & info on Lador! I really appreciate it!
