Hello all, New poster here. I'm researching the family of Edward Whitaker. He was born 8 Dec 1858 in Birmingham, England, immigrated to the US in 1887 and died 1918. Between 1887 and 1918, he's listed on the census as being an employee of the Providence Gorham company as a silversmith. I've seen the silversmith roster for those working around 1920, but have not found a roster prior to that date. Does one exist? Thanks! IP: Logged |

It's a stab in the dark, but did you locate city directories in Providence, assuming he lived in Providence, at that city's library, historical society, or maybe at Brown uni? Regarding another city, I recently saw directories going back to the late 1860s and those were in the city's public library, not listed in the library's online catalogue. IP: Logged |

That really is a great reference. Sometimes when you're researching, things go down a different path than what they started and pick up extra interesting info. Thanks for posting this! Janet IP: Logged |
