I have been remiss in failing to introduce myself in my first post. I am a retired librarian sorting through a trove of flatware acquired when we cleaned out my mother's house. The bulk of the pieces are plate rather than sterling, but two spoons have piqued my interest. The fact that they come from NY suggests that they belong to my mother's side of the family, but the engraved name name is unknown to the family genealogist. This has left me seeking information about the silversmith. It seems possible that one of this group might have come across the maker. Does anyone collect sterling flatware of H. Potter & Son? The operation is tentatively dated 1848-1852 and was located in Poughkeepsie, NY. Any information about this silversmith and his work would be appreciated.
