[26-2690] Hope everyone is safe with the blizzard! Please forgive me if everyone already has this early reference. A list of early American silversmiths and their marks by French, Hollis; Also, I hope I attached it properly. Stay safe, IP: Logged |

Janet, Thanks for the link to this book. It is interesting that the Walpole Society was started to promote the study of British Art, but they had some members that were interested in American silver. One of the other members of their committee on silver was Francis H. Bigelow the author of Historic Silver of the Colonies and its Makers. This was published the same year so this little group produced some of the early books on American silver. IP: Logged |

Research strikes different people different ways. I am on another forum where we discussed the derivation of the subject on a silk embroidery picture. The moderator discovered that the image represented Una and the Lion and that this story came from The Faerie Queene an English poem by Edmund Spenser. One of the other members stated “OK. I never read The Faerie Queene, so missed the reference. I am now edjumicated”. Edjumicated is in the urban dictionary which states its meaning as; “To know and understand information that is completely and totally irrelevant and not useful in any situation”. I guess some are just not into research. IP: Logged |
