I'm new to the forum, but was wondering if anyone knew the day and moth and year which buttercup was patented or ideally, the actual patent number. I'm trying to find the name of the actual designer of the pattern. Cheers! IP: Logged |

Was this patent, D 31,069, the original patent for Buttercup or is there another?

The pattern depicted in the drawing patent D 31,069 is actually the Cambridge pattern. It is very similar to Buttercup which was also patented in 1899. The two are often confused. IP: Logged |

I've seen text saying there is a Buttercup patent but don't recall seeing it. Anyone have a copy of the patent to share?

I was recently in a silver shop, & mentioned that even though I have several wonderful sets of silver, I am always drawn to BUTTERCUP when I see it. The proprietor told me that it was always a top seller for her, & she had customers, generations of the same family, that all collected BUTTERCUP. They had recently come in to purchase starter pieces to welcome a new baby girl, & she had suggested that they might enjoy the CAMBRIDGE pattern for the baby, so that she could have her own unique pattern, that would one day blend seamlessly with the flatware she would inherit.
