I have a set of what I assumed were salt cellars but now believe may be a tong rest to match the set in the link below [link snipped...Please re-read the Guidelines]. I would appreciate any thoughts you all may have. Thanks. [This message has been edited by Scott Martin (edited 02-16-2023).] IP: Logged |

Gorham, 1871. Just like the Ice Bowl! ABSOLUTELY SUPERB! Polly will like those. IP: Logged |

ranger1202, You'd make the maintenance for the forums easier if you would use the SSF Photo Gallery to host your photos. IP: Logged |

Any opinions on what these were used for? IP: Logged |

Knowing the measurements and whether the inside shows signs of vermeil would help the discussion. IP: Logged |

Measurements are 3"wide x 2"long x 2" tall. They could potentially have gold vermeil in the bowl. It's hard to tell with the amount of patina and age. If I decide to polish them it may be easier to tell. IP: Logged |

My guess would be.salts. Gotham made some tongs to go with an ice bucket I think. Whatever their use they are great. [This message has been edited by ahwt (edited 10-05-2018).] IP: Logged |

ranger1202, Gorham did make salt cellars in this design, 1130 One is shown, along with a spoon, in a Gorham photograph on page 68 of "The Handbook of Gorham Open Salt Dishes" by George & Carolyn Tompkins. The dimensions given in the Gorham photo are 1 1/2 inches high and 2 1/4 wide. [This message has been edited by Richard Kurtzman (edited 10-04-2018).] IP: Logged |

Thanks for the replies and help. I did not know they made other items in this pattern non ice related. Unfortunately, there isn't much info out there about this unique pattern. IP: Logged |

And your bears are almost friendly! Not like the toothy bears prowling the ice bowl.
