I came across this sterling match book case by Maria Regnier (1901-1994), Hungarian born and who immigrated to the United States with her family, settling in Saint Louis, Missouri. Despite the acclaim she received in the 1940s and 1950s, Regnier’s work didn't enter museum collections until later in her life. I'm wondering if this could have been a piece made for her own use as it is monogrammed "MTR". So far, no luck in finding out if she had a middle name starting with "T". Does anyone happen to know this information? IP: Logged |

I have no knowledge of her work I am afraid. I can say that the T is not the middle name, rather the surname of the owner -- Malfoy Rugburn Tootwhistle for example. IP: Logged |

Wev, I know what your saying, the format could also be interpreted as the "marriage" style format. This piece however seems to me to have an artsy "monogram" appearance (first, middle last initial) so often seen etched onto personal items. All this to say, given there are several ways to interpret the letters, it would be helpful to know what her middle initial was. IP: Logged |

Her immigration and naturalization records do not show a middle name. Her maiden name was Regnier, so a"T" doesn't fit anywhere for her as far as I can tell. IP: Logged |
