Greetings: I recently inherited a "Milton Shield" made by Leonard Morel-Ladeuil in London for Elkington & Co. of Birmingham, 1866, and shown at the Paris Exhibition of 1867. The original is in the V&A museum but Elkington made 1000 copies using the same electrotype process used in the original.
I will upload high rez photos soon but I am posting because I am wondering how to remove residue on the shield that i believe was from decades-old attempts to clean and polish the metal improperly. The residue is white. I am also seeking info on how to clean and polish the undamaged parts of the shield. Until I figure out how to post my images here is a link to a pristine version from the Met Museum in NYC: Thanks [This message has been edited by Scott Martin (edited 12-25-2019).] IP: Logged |

Try this link for a photo of the damage. The area just to the right of Adam and Eve has the most residue. I will upload a better photo soon [snip] Please properly post photos [This message has been edited by Scott Martin (edited 12-25-2019).] IP: Logged |
