Hello Members

this is my first post.

I have just recently purchased a small ornate silver box made by Hermann Ratzersdorfer 1843-1881,

While researching hi I came across an old post on this forum (Fish set vs Dessert set., Viennese Wien Ratzersdorfer), someone had bought some enameled spoons or cutlery by him. And they were wondering if he was collectable.

In my opinion yes he is,if you can find any of his work,He was one of the few in the early 1800s that created a style called historistmus, German for in the earlier 15th, 16th cent style, He and another maker Hermann Bohm (strange they have the same christian names)
were the leading makers in this style in Vienna in the middle to late 1800s.

whether or not you like there items is a matter of personal taste.

In my opinion it was a very individual style that included a lot of fine workmanship and quality materials.

Regards freddy.

Welcome to the Forum, Freddy. It sounds interesting, could you post a couple of photos of his work that you have in your collection? This forum is a great place for people to share things in their collections and their knowledge about them so everyone can learn about silver. Photos are really helpful.

Hello Kimo

Many thanks for your welcome.

I will try and attach images not sure if it will happen, correctly.

About my box, I purchased it recently in England,I am in Australia,it has not arrived yet,on it way.

As to the question if Hermann Ratzersdorfer is collectable,in an old post on this forum,

from when the bidding started on my box there were 27 bids before my last wining bid.

so as I said before there seems to be a few people around the world that appreciate his work.

His business employed around 30 people in the mid 1800s,how much of the work he did himself we will never know.
my box has one of his earlier hallmarks,
and the silver mark for Vienna with the date 1862. it is 13 loth standard.

[snip ... Please properly post photos. See: How to Post Photos]

Hope members enjoy the images.
regards freddy.

Very confusing,
The images are in the gallery I cannot work out how to post them. Under Hermann Razersdofer.
To confusing for me so many silly procedures,Not very user friendly.

Should be simplified .

You have done it once......

The following is from the How To ....

Highlight the BBcode line and copy (control-C).

In your post paste (control-V).

Do the same for each image you want to add to your post.
