Is there much difference in quality between early to mid 20th century Gorham, Poole and Webster Wilcox silver plate? I am trying to decide between a large silver plated tray by these 3 makers. They are all priced at around $xxx [Please see the Guidelines] plus postage. All look to be in excellent condition and size is similar for all 3. Around 26/30 inches by 20 inches. Is one likely to be much better quality? Does the price seem reasonable too? These are the 3 trays: Poole Webster Wilcox Gorham [This message has been edited by Scott Martin (edited 11-29-2021).] IP: Logged |

My suggestion is to simply pick the one that goes best with whatever pieces of silver you are planning to set on it. Or better yet, if you have a tea set or something for which you are seeking a tray, look around for a tray that is made by the same maker and matches what you will place on it. IP: Logged |

The Poole and Gorham photos seem to be the same? All things being equal, I suspect a lot of people would vote Gorham. But Kimo's advice is good. I also wonder if you've seen them in person. Condition is a big factor in plate. If they are all offered by the same dealer who you trust, then maybe that dealer's advice on relative condition would be enough. IP: Logged |
