Bolster here. History of my silver disease: Parents always interested in sterling, and I became infected by proximity. Started with mom's 150-pc sterling spoon collection (which took her decades to assemble), jumped to sets (Old Colonial is the one that remained--beautiful but painful), then the disease jumped to coins, then just starting on bullion. Working on my second roll of Franklin Halves as we speak. Clearly the infection has gotten worse because I sought out you folks. Glad to join the colony. IP: Logged |

I'm new here so can’t respond to the questions in the General Forum but YES I have done engine turning, aka Jeweling, Damascening, Krayling, Snailing, Swirling. I've not done it on silver, just steel and brass. I use a hobby mill that has .001" control on the table, and metal brushes. For a soft metal like silver I'd look for the smallest diameter bristles I could find. EDIT I don't know how to post photos here but let's see if this works... I corrected your photo posting, please see How to Post Photos

Hi and welcome, Bolster! I like your engine turned magnifying glass - it is nicely done and it has a nice 3-D effect. IP: Logged |

Any particular favorite of yours among the 150 spoons? I always enjoy seeing those around, mainly in antique stores in the US, but I saw them in gift stores a lot more in the UK. IP: Logged |

One of the first kinds of silver I ever collected was grapefruit spoons, mainly because I have always like grapefruit. They are easy to spot in a pile of old silver because of their pointy tips, and often they are found as souvenir spoons with interesting scenes embossed or engraved in their bowls. IP: Logged |
