Hello! II recently found a sterling silver spoon that is marked “A.A. Webster & Co.“ but I can see another name underneath this mark. I can’t quite make it out but it ends with ME. Has anyone ever seen this before? IP: Logged |

It is hard to say much without seeing the entire spoon, both front and back. Could you please add clear photos of the entire front and back? An initial thought is that it could be a case where a retail store stamped their marking on the spoon before sale. IP: Logged |

I don't see the other name you are referencing but I can tell you that the piece is by Dominick & Haff. Full photos of the piece as Kimo suggest would be most helpful. I think you need to re-read the instruction for posting photos because you latest post only included the link to where the photos are posted. Also, it would be good for you to provide an introduction of yourself and your interest in silver. IP: Logged |

That's the lovely pattern No. 10 by Dominick & Haff introduced in 1896. IP: Logged |

Thanks for adding the full photos. June has kindly identified the maker and pattern of your nice spoon. My initial thought of A.A. Webster being a retailer who applied their store's name to things they were selling without concern for markings already applied seems likely now. IP: Logged |

quote: Thanks June! I would agree with you that it is D&H. I did some research on A.A. Webster and I found that “In 1886 A.A. Webster left the partnership (forming A.A. Webster &Co)” here: https://www.silvercollection.it/usasilwebster.html So my question is why would another Silversmith company scratch out Dominick & Haff and stamp their own name? Was this common?? I was not able to find much information about it online. More importantly to me does this affect the price positively or negatively? IP: Logged |

You've reached too far here. Jim. That is why I asked you for your interest in silver and for you to introduce yourself which you did not do. You apparently have not read the guidelines of this forum. It is a site for lovers of silver for silver sake. It is not a commercial site and does not discuss valuation. IP: Logged |

You still haven't shown us the courtesy of introducing yourself and your interest in silver. IP: Logged |

Art, clocks, silver, weapons just to name a few. I started collecting antiques and knives when I was 7 years old. I also enjoy restoring/ repairing vintage and antique pieces. As for my interest here, I have many unidentified pieces. I am trying to figure out what I have and inventory them. I appreciate your patience and feedback. Thank you IP: Logged |
