Above is an unmarked brass chestnut roaster as in Nat Cole King’s Christmas song;
“Chestnuts roasting by an open fire,
Jack Frost nipping at your nose
Yuletide carols being sung by the choir
And folks dressed up like Eskimos.”

We may have to clean this up a bit before we use it to do any roasting of chestnuts, but we just could not pass this up.
When will lived in St. Louis a suburb up there would have street vendors selling roasted chestnuts during the Christmas open house season. This roaster brings back some good memories. The chestnuts have a nice flavor and are little bit like eating mashed potatoes.

I hope everyone will have a great holiday season.

Maybe a dumb question, but doesn't the handle get too hot to handle?

Use a potholder?

American chestnuts were much sweeter and tastier than the European ones you get in the grocery store. Sadly, the chestnut blight wiped out almost all the American chestnut trees in the early 20th century. Now some scientists and horticulturalists are breeding blight-resistant hybrids; I got some nuts from the new, resistant American trees for Thanksgiving, and they are delicious.
