[26-1438] Hello - I am an antique dealer, but do not handle silver items. Once in a while, I find something that catches my eye, and I like, so I buy it as a learning piece. I have not been able to find the makers mark in any of my books. Can someone help? The mark is a 5 pointed crown with Spain underneath, and W A in script style. The A is slightly below the W, and the letters are within a rectangle. The word plate is stamped in another location on the bottom of the candlestick. IP: Logged |

Lighting fixtures are very difficult to track down because so many are made outside the normal silver trade venues. Could we get a picture of this? How tall is it? Does it have a hole in the bottom of the cup so that it could be wired for a lamp? What is the shape and design? In the 70's, there appeared a large number of silverplate items on the giftware market. These were made in Spain and were more or less traditional types of holloware. Prices were such that they appealed to a wide market. The items were heavier than traditional silverplate, indicating a pewter base. At first, the country of origin was Isreal. Then Spain. Later production seems to have settled in India. The maker changed with times and prices. They were made wherever skilled labor was low priced. The production wandered all over the earth. My understanding is that these were made for a firm that put out designs and specs for competitive bids. Then marketed to gift shops. The number of marks that appear on them is bewildering. Thanks Dale - But I believe these candlesticks to be from the 1920'-30's. Just the feel and look of them and the script letters. The base is octagon, and they are well made with no hole for lamp use. Base does not weigh heavier. The only way I can send pics are as jpegs from my computer. They are quite beautiful and not cheap looking. Running River IP: Logged |
