A set of 6 silverplate medallion coffee spoons or 5 o'clock spoons by R Strickland, Albany, New York which was in business from 1857-1884. The spoons I am guessing date to the late 1860's, early 1870's. The spoons are 5.125" in length with lovely twisted stems. The medallion motif is crisp and features a Roman of Greek medallion head wearing a plumed helmet. The spoons are in excellent condition and were replated, so no damage or plate loss. Price: $98. Thanks!

Great looking spoons and re-plated..... 6 X $16.33 each seems like a good price for well plated medallion spoons from +/- 1870's. IP: Logged |

I recently came across an eBay auction for the very same spoons- a set of 4, same medallion motif, twisted stems etc. The listing states that they are coin silver. When I emailed the lister about how this was determined since they only have a strange "T" mark with appendages, the seller said they were bought from a major auction house which listed them as coin silver. It is curious to me that the same pattern would turn up in both plate and coin (considering the listing is accurate)silver. Is there another occurence of this happening? Any thoughts appreciated. I also have the link for the listing if anyone is interested. Thanks, Kelly IP: Logged |
