Up for sale a stylish late 19th century Gorham silverplate 3 piece bachelor's tea set with a lion head mark for the date 1891. Asking $299 + shipping. The 3 piece set consists of a teapot in a drum shape with a pineapple finial and an ebonised wood handle and a sugar bowl and creamer of similar shape. Each piece has gadrooning about halfway up with a beaded lower and upper border. Also, each item is engraved with a swirling monogram "GRW" which contrasts nicely to the linearity of the gadrooning and beaded border. The teapot measures 4.75" to the top of the pineapple finial and 7" at its widest point. The base diameter of the teapot is 3.5". The creamer is 3" tall and 5" at its widest point with a base diameter of 2.75". The sugar bowl is 2.5" tall and its base diameter is 3.25". On the base of the teapot there is the lion head mark for 1891, the Gorham anchor mark, "Gorham Co.", "0745", "Silver Soldered" and "3/4 pint". On the base of the creamer there is the lion head date mark, "Copyrighted 1888", the Gorham anchor mark, "Gorham Co.", "0745" and "Silver Soldered". On the base of the sugar bowl it is marked with the lion head date mark, "Copyrighted 1891", the Gorham anchor mark, "Gorham Co.", "0745" and "Silver Soldered". The set is in excellent condition with a slight shadow mark to the plate to the right of the monogram on the tea pot. More photos available. Asking $299 + shipping. Thank you.
